Umberto Boccioni: Before becoming a Futurist

In order to revolutionize and totally change  any sphere you have to acquire all skills connected with it. That’s why most of the greatest vanguard masters, who have totally destroyed the conventional artistic language, had a solid academic background and were good in creating highly realistic images.
For instance, a prominent Italian Futurist Umberto Boccioni in the end of 1900s devoted a lot of time to the graphic arts, in which Rembrandt and Beardsley were the main authorities for him. And in painting Boccioni was influenced by Post-impressionism. Looking at this fresh yet rather realistic by subject and rendering images, it’s hard to believe that just in several years the artist would publish an article “Let’s blow up the Academies!”, calling upon ruining traditional system.
